Tom Burgess, CEO and Founder
Tom Burgess, husband and father of two, is founder and CEO of Burgess Commercial Real Estate. Mr. Burgess is a builder and developer with a focus on innovative space solutions for small and medium size businesses. Burgess’ roots are in small business, initiating his first start up a year out of college after struggling to make ends meet at his first job.
“I recall living pretty skinny those first years. I poured all my efforts and profits back into the company; all attention was focused on my customer’s challenges and creating products that were solutions because they delivered value beyond the competition. I was serving companies from mom and pops all the way to Wal-Mart and Home Depot. This kept me on the road over 20 weeks a year and with a family starting, travel was a problem. Timing and circumstances worked out so I sold my first company in 1999, and because I owned my building I had additional resources/income.”
This allowed Burgess to focus full time on real estate, an industry he was first exposed to as a teen while working as a laborer on residential projects. “I really enjoyed being part of the process that created a home from a pile of lumber.” The lessons learned in those early start-up years ring true again…deliver solutions to the customer by having products that deliver value beyond the competition.
“I believe a fundamental difference between my company and others is we have always advocated ownership for our customers. We help our customers create wealth through real estate ownership and help them in understanding all of the financial benefits to ownership. I always wanted to own my business’ real estate and I was sure other small business owners were of like mind. So when I started developing land and building homes for businesses, not only did I create product that delivered solutions at a better value than the competition, I also was mindful of the ownership opportunity.
When you hear me say things like “asset protection through asset retention,” “changing outcomes,” and “be a resource for your family,” it is because I have helped small business owners do those things by owning their real estate. I can honestly say we build more than buildings…”we build financial futures.” ….and that is what motivates me.”
